Kids and toddlers love smoothies which are a delicious and convenient way to get vital nutrients necessary for good health. Fresh ripe organic fruit makes the most flavorful smoothies which taste best the first few minutes after being blended. Organic fruits and veggies are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. The sugar content of all fruit makes the smoothie sweet and a very ripe banana makes a smoothie even sweeter. Fresh frozen fruit are delightful in smoothies but should be used within two weeks as their flavor fades the longer they stay in the freezer. Kids can use fruit that is local, organic and in season to get the best taste and most nutrients in their smoothies. Veggies are also delicious in smoothies, but kids need a juicer to extract carrot or beet juice. Kids can mix orange or apple juice with fresh and frozen fruit to make a smoothie. Almond milk has a delicate sweet flavor that tastes great in a smoothie. Buttermilk and yogurt are low fat and a good source of protein and calcium, perfect for growing kids. Grade B maple syrup has an intense maple flavor and is a wonderful sweetener that adds a depth of flavor to smoothies. Kids love organic peanut butter in smoothies, and it’s a great source of protein, rich in heart healthy fats and minerals. Kid Chefs can blend their favorite ingredients together and create their own smoothies for a healthy power packed snack any time of day.
