Kids make Herb Gardens

Herb Gardens make great gifts or a child’s first garden. Kids can find lightweight window boxes, classic containers for herbs, at garden centers. Making several herb gardens at once, kids can purchase containers, organic potting soil, and seeds at the same time. Kids can get oregano, rosemary, sage, chives, and thyme seeds which grow well together indoors. Kids can decorate Popsicle sticks to name the herbs, as wells as personalize the containers with paint. Fill the containers with the organic potting soil and add water to make it damp but not soggy. Kids can sprout the seeds by placing them on half of a damp paper towel, fold the towel over the seeds, and place it in a labeled plastic sandwich bag in a safe warm spot. Checking every other day for signs of sprouting, kids can then plant the seedlings in moist potting soil and place the name markers next to the appropriate herb. Kids can water the seedlings as they grow into gorgeous gifts for their friends and family and add a card with easy care instructions and a favorite recipe.
