Kids can learn to make three classic sauces to make many yummy dishes: tomato sauce, white sauce, and Tzatziki sauce. From pasta sauce to pizza topping, a tomato sauce can be made by dicing an organic red onion and 2 minced garlic cloves into a tbsp of extra virgin olive oil in a large pot on low heat. Add 5 diced tomatoes, 1 tsp honey, 1 diced organic carrot, and cook 15-20 minutes. Kids can put the sauce through a strainer with a spoon and cut garden fresh parsley, sage, rosemary, oregano, thyme, and basil into the sauce and add sea salt to taste. For delicious macaroni and cheese to mushroom gravy, kids can start by making a white sauce. Melt 1 tbsp organic butter in a sauce pan, add 1 tbsp organic wheat pastry flour, ¼ tsp sea salt, ¼ tsp curry powder, ½ cup organic milk and stir constantly with a whisk until smooth and bubbling. For a great dipping sauce to a sandwich spread kids can make a Tzatziki sauce. Wash a small freshly picked organic cucumber thoroughly. Carefully grate the cucumber with its skin into a bowl. Add 1 cup of organic Greek yogurt, 1 tsp fresh lemon juice, 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, 1 small crushed minced garlic clove, ¼ tsp sea salt, and a dash of cayenne pepper. Pick fresh from the garden 5 mint leaves, 3 sprigs of parsley and 4 sprigs of dill and cut into the bowl with scissors. Refrigerate 2 hours before serving. When kids learn to make these sauces, they can elevate any dish with more flavors.
