Kids can check out the bulk section of their health food store to find organic nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. When kids buy in bulk, the fruit and nuts are fresher, with no added sugar or salt. There is much less packaging making it more economical than prepackaged energy bars. Kids can scoop exactly the quantity of each item wanted into a bag and pay according to the weight. Kids can combine all sorts of their favorite nuts, like almonds, walnuts, pecans, pistachios, with seeds like, pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, and with dried fruit like, cranberries, apricots, raisins, and dates. Kids can mix their choices at home and store them in a large container with an air tight lid. Kids can add dark chocolate chips, rich in poly-phenols, to the mix, making it a treat for kids’ health and spirit. Dried fruit and nuts are a concentrated energy food and a little goes a long way. When kids choose their own snack mix, they are excited to pack small containers or plastic snack bags for an energy snack on the run. This mix is great on yogurt, oatmeal, and salads for added energy and brain power. Buying in bulk is fun activity for kids at the store and a healthy choice for delicious energy snacks.
