Kids can visit local organic farms where its fun to pick berries in the spring and summer. Raspberries grow on canes and do well in hot climates with amazing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. Blueberries, a Superfood, grow on bushes, like cooler climates, and are heart and brain healthy, with abundant antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins. Kids can find delicious local variety berries to grow at their garden center. Kid Chefs can also make yummy berry tarts with any of their favorite berries. Preheat the oven 350 degrees. Kids can wash ½ cup organic blueberries and ½ cup organic raspberries and put them in a 6 x 6 inch baking dish saucepan with 1 tbsp organic sugar, 1 tsp organic arrowroot starch, and 1/8 tsp cinnamon. In a mixing bowl add ½ cup organic whole wheat flour, ½ cup organic old fashioned rolled oats, 1 tsp baking power, 1 tsp organic sugar, 1/8 tsp nutmeg and mix with a fork. Add 4 tbsp organic extra virgin coconut oil and mix to make crumbs. Kids can sprinkle the crumbs over the berries and press down for a smooth crust. Bake for 25 minutes and cool, making 4 servings.
